The Europass initiative was established by the Decision 2241/2004/EC of the European Parliament and the Council in 2004 . Its aim is to make a person's skills and qualifications clearly understood throughout Europe.

Following the adoption of the revised Europass Decision of the European Parliament and Council in May 2018 a new Europass is in development.

The New Europass platform will be a secure, accessible and user-friendly platform that carries a set of web-based tools and information to support individuals in managing the different stages of their career and learning.

This online platform is being developed by the European Commission in regular consultation with the Europass advisory group and other key stakeholders.

The new Europass will include:

• the Europass e-Portfolio: an online tool for users to describe their skills, find interesting job and   learning opportunities, to manage their applications, and create CVs and cover letters
• Information Provision on working and studying in different EU countries
• Digitally-signed credentials: free tools and software for institutions to issue digital, tamper-proof qualifications and other learning credentials
• Interoperability: Europass can connect with employment and learning services to allow users connect and        make applications.
